Uganda Cubs hold off Senegal to march into R16 in Qatar

Uganda U-17 national football team, the Uganda Cubs fairytale story at the ongoing World Cup in Qatar continued to unfold after yet another massive win at the finals.

The youthful side commanded by native tactician Brian Ssenyondo managed to beat fellow African outfit Senegal 1-0 in the round of 32 on Saturday evening.

Buzzing from a historical victory in their last encounter against 2001 winners France, the Cubs looked determined to surpass a tricky Senegal.

Abubakali Walusimbi thunderous strike witnessed during the first stanza was the only difference that separated the two teams, with Uganda advancing to the next round.

Senegal with an aim to keep their journey intact, increased their urgency in the final half but still failed to find a break through.

The debutants from East Africa now wait to face the winner between Burkina Faso or defending champions Germany at the round of 16 phase.
