The inaugural Osun State Intercollegiate Games will begin on Wednesday, November 21, 2024.

Nothing less than 13 tertiary institutions are set to participate in the inaugural edition of the games, as confirmed by the Organizer.

The competition will be held at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and Federal Polytechnic, Ede, with the opening ceremony taking place at the sports complex of Obafemi Awolowo University.

The appeal was announced during the Competition Press Conference at Fountain University, Osogbo, on Monday, attended by sports experts and directors of sports from various higher institutions in the state.

Alhaji Olayiwola Adefiranoye, the team lead for Ace Sports, urged sports stakeholders, especially the media, to collaborate in promoting this competition for greater visibility.

Alhaji Adefiranoye said, “We want to happy to you to project this event so well so that it’ll be a great benefit to the state, Nation and to us as an individual.

“We hope by next year we’re going to have more than 13 Institutions that’ll participate by the special grace of God and it’ll be bigger than this.”

Also present was Mr. Layi Adesiyan, the acting permanent secretary of the Osun State Ministry of Sports, representing the Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports.

Mr. Adesiyan commended the competition organizers for their excellent work and assured them of government support.

He said, “The competition will foster unity among tertiary institutions in the state.

Alhaji Abdulganiyu Adedokun, the sports director of Fountain University Osogbo and a member of the technical committee for the Osun State Intercollegiate Games.

He said “Tertiary institutions that are located in Osun Central of the state will have their games to be played at Federal Polytechnic Ede and institutions from Ijesa and Ile-Ife zone will play their games at Obafemi Awolowo University Sports Complex”

The competition is exclusively for genuine students from each institution. The participants’ data will be thoroughly verified by the competition’s technical team. The competition will run for two weeks, concluding on December 4, 2024.
