Former Nigeria international Henry Makinwa has lauded the Super Eagles’ “fierce attacking football” in their 2-0 victory over Rwanda, attributing it to a smart tactical approach by coach Eric Sekou Chelle.
Speaking to Completesports.com, Makinwa praised Chelle’s decision to deploy his strongest lineup and urge relentless attacking from the outset, a strategy that led to Victor Osimhen’s early goals and secured Nigeria’s first win in Group C.
“I’m happy they approached the game with a fierce attack. There’s no other way—just attack, attack, and attack to win,” Makinwa stated from his base in Spain via Complete Sports.

“Again, the coach picked his best available players—those who were fit and ready to fight—with the right combinations. Yes, you must go with your best players who are fit.”
He highlighted the team’s dominance, saying, “The Super Eagles started with high pressing and a series of attacking moves, leading to Osimhen’s early goal, which unsettled the Rwandans. The team dictated the pace of the game for the entire 90 minutes.”
With the victory, Nigeria now sits fourth in Group C and prepares to host Zimbabwe in Uyo. Makinwa believes the win in Kigali has significantly boosted the team’s confidence.
“The players’ confidence has increased after the win over Rwanda. This puts them in better spirits going into the Zimbabwe game, without much pressure,” he said.
Makinwa concluded optimistically, “Yes, I am confident they will win and keep pushing for the World Cup ticket.”
