Young Africans forward among Ethiopia players to miss Uganda showdown

The Lucy commence their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualification campaign against regional neighbors, Uganda.

Ethiopia take on the hosts in the first leg of the Qualifiers at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo on Friday, February 21, 2025, with out some of it’s key players.

A notable member is Aryat Odong who was initially summoned in the provisional roster by the newly appointed head coach Joseph Gebrewold.

The Young Africans player didn’t even feature in the preparatory games Ethiopia played with Djibouti while at home in Addis Ababa due to an injury setback.

Diredawa goalkeeper Roman Ambaye also didn’t continue with the group after picking up an injury, leaving her out of the squad that travelled to Kampala.

The rest of the absentees exempted from the Uganda clash are Zufan Defersha, Bethlehem Mentelo, and Hawassa towering defender, Tsega Niguse.
