Bayelsa Queens coach, Whyte Ogonda, has described their victory over Rivers Angels in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Super 6 as a big success.
The win, which earned them three crucial points, has boosted the team’s morale and motivation.
“We lost no time in showing we are ready,” Ogonda said, highlighting the importance of the victory against one of Nigeria’s most successful women’s football clubs.
“Securing three points at such a big stage against a team like Rivers Angels shows we are ready. It will definitely encourage my players and motivate them to work even harder in the remaining matches.”
The coach revealed that Bayelsa Queens had set a benchmark to go unbeaten in their first five matches.
“Before the league started, we set a benchmark for ourselves: to go unbeaten in our first five matches. Once we achieve that, we’ll set a new target. So far, I believe we are on track,” Ogonda stated.
Ogonda also praised the state government’s support, which has been instrumental in the team’s success. The players have been promised an additional ₦3 million for each win, aside from regular match bonuses.
“The support from our state government has been crucial. This kind of backing goes a long way in pushing the players to perform and secure the three points at stake.”
Bayelsa Queens’ next match is against Nasarawa Amazons, and Ogonda is determined to secure another win.
“Our target has always been to win the first three matches and get nine points. The Nasarawa game is part of that plan. It’s not an exception, we are going all out to ensure we get another three points. Our initial focus is on securing nine points from the opening three fixtures, then we will take it from there.”
With this mindset, Bayelsa Queens is poised to continue their strong performance in the NWFL Super 6.
