Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite their current precarious position in the qualifying group.
Nigeria, three-time Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions, sit fourth in their World Cup qualifying group, trailing behind key rivals with just four games left to play. Only the group winners will automatically qualify for the global tournament scheduled to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

In an interview with Brila FM, Nwabali, who plies his trade with Chippa United in South Africa, urged fans not to panic, assuring that the team remains focused on taking the remaining games one at a time.
“It is football. Just because we are Nigeria doesn’t mean we’re guaranteed to win every game. You can see we still have a lot of chances to qualify, despite where we are on the table,” said Nwabali.

“We’re going to push in our next game, take it one game at a time, and we’ll see how our next four games go.”
The Super Eagles’ qualifying campaign has been under intense scrutiny following a string of unconvincing results. However, with key fixtures ahead — including a decisive clash against second-placed Rwanda and a trip to South Africa — the battle for the top spot remains wide open.
Nwabali’s reassurance comes as the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), fans, and players rally together in hopes of securing the country’s return to the World Cup after missing out on the 2022 edition in Qatar.
The Super Eagles will resume their qualifying campaign in September, with every point now crucial in the race to qualify for the world’s biggest football tournament.
