Watambala resilience rekindles the pact with Cranes

A rising star on the block in 2019 through the ranks of Vipers feeder institution, St Mary’s Kitende, reached success with Uganda at CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup before earning his senior debut against South Sudan the following year.

Karim Watambala is among the nine home-based players that made it to preliminary squad as Uganda Cranes start preparations for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

A summon that truly justifies the merit system, the 25 year-old is joined club team-mates, Rogers Torach (defender) and league top-scorer, Allan Okello.

Watambala, has been phenomenal in the domestic competition, Startimes Uganda Premier League, with his performances inspiring a high flying Vipers SC who are currently top of the standings.

A whole year out since the March International break in Morocco, Watambala was recently invited in the squad for the postponed 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in January.

Crucial ties awaiting Uganda in the global play-offs, coach Paul Put has put his faith into the venoms attacking midfielder for the confrontations against Mozambique and Guinea later this month.
