The venoms will hope to carry league form into the domestic cup competition when they welcome a fellow side from the first division.
Vipers SC host the Ankole Lions of Mbarara City in the round of 32 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
This will be the first ever Uganda Cup fixture to be played under the floodlights, raising anticipation levels among fans.
To reach the Round of 32, Vipers had to fight hard in Ngora as they drubed Regional League side Teso Progress Academy 2-1(TEPA) FC, thanks to a Livingstone Mulondo brace.
On the other hand, Mbarara City FC needed a 5-3 post-match penalty shootout penalty to knock out North East Regional side Junior Eagles after a goalless draw in regulation time.
A confrontation against a familiar opponent, Vipers co-head coach Fred Muhumuza believes it won’t be a walkover in the park, differing from the perspective majority of the people have.
“It’s a UPL team with a great coach, a very competitive squad and good tactical organisation as a team with good energy levels and individual abilities.” said Muhumuza
Asked whether the Uganda Cup is also a priority for the venoms, Muhumuza reaffirmed it that the club is having sights on both the league and the cup tournament.
“Vipers SC as a club has a wide squad. So, to remain competitive, it’s better to remain on two fronts (Uganda cup and the League). So, it’s the reason we prioritise it more

Elsewhere, reigning champions Kitara FC from Hoima visit Kampala Regional entity CATDA FC at NEC Coffee grounds, Bugolobi while Kaaro Karungi lock horns with Busia Young Stars.
