Bayelsa Queens’ defensive midfielder, Vera Samuel, is brimming with joy after securing her second Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title on Saturday.
This latest triumph comes after her initial league victory with Delta Queens in Asaba just last year.
Samuel played a pivotal role in Bayelsa Queens’ dominant 4-1 victory over Naija Ratels in the Super Six playoffs.
In a remarkable display from the midfield, she netted an impressive hat-trick, propelling the “Prosperity Girls” to league glory after Nasarawa Amazons and Edo Queens played out a goalless draw.
“I feel so excited and very grateful to God for giving me the opportunity again to represent Nigeria and Bayelsa Queens,” an elated Samuel told the press.
Having previously gained continental experience with both Delta Queens and Edo Queens, Samuel now has her sights set on a bigger prize: the CAF Women’s Champions League title. She expressed her determination to help a Nigerian club lift the coveted trophy for the first time.
“We couldn’t win it with Delta Queens and Edo Queens, so I am very delighted and hopeful that God gave me the opportunity to go and bring the CAF Women’s Champions League title to Nigeria,” she affirmed with conviction.
Samuel expressed unwavering faith in her team’s capabilities, stating, “What God cannot do doesn’t exist. I can’t explain it. I can’t say it is luck or by my power.”
She further emphasized the strength of Bayelsa Queens, highlighting their impressive journey to the title. “I am very sure Bayelsa Queens have a lot to offer. Coming from the unbeaten regular season to the Super Six is not an easy job. I believe we will come back with the CAF Women’s Champions League this year.”
With the NWFL Premiership title secured, Bayelsa Queens will now turn their attention to the WAFU-B (West African Football Union Zone B) qualifiers.
Their aim is to conquer the regional challenge and secure a spot in the CAF Women’s Champions League, where Vera Samuel and her teammates will strive to make history for Nigerian women’s football.
