Uganda summons 39 for 2026 WAFCON Qualifiers

The Pearl of Africa will start the journey to Morocco first with a double confrontation against regional neighbors Ethiopia in the 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Uganda national women’s football team head Coach, Sheryl Botes revealed her provisional roster in a press conference held at the FUFA headquarters, Mengo on Wednesday.

Dominated by members playing in the local league, the notable foreign faces are Midfielder Joan Nabirye, Viola Nambi, and top scorer from the Indian Women’s League (IWL), Fazila Ikwaput.

Russian-based Fauzia Najjembe, and goal keeper Vanessa Karungi miss yet another international gathering through injury. The duo are on the road to recovery having initiated personal training.

One of the shocking omissions is Sandra Nabweteme who plies her trade in Mexico. The former Valley Warrior took part in four of last year’s friendlies but doesn’t make the cut.

Fresh from a splendid performance against Namibia in U-17 World Cup Qualifiers, Botes has integrated Martha Babirye, Doreen Aujat, Shadia Nabirye, Agnes Nabukenya, and Rinah Ariho into the senior national squad.

Uganda host the first leg on February 21 before the decisive fixture 5 days later in Addis Ababa. The group is expected to enter residential camp on February 9, 2025 and commence preparations the following day.
