Uganda starts preparations to the 2026 WAFCON Tournament in Morocco

The Senior women’s national team, Crested Cranes, are back on pitch after a two months break on the sidelines with out kicking the ball.

The team held their first training session on Monday at Hamz under the watch of head coach Sheryl Botes Stadium in preparations for the upcoming continental Qualifiers.

Uganda take on regional neighbors Ethiopia in the first round of 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Qualifiers later this month.

The first leg between the two sides will be played at Hamz Stadium on February 21, 2025 before the decisive fixture 5 days later in Addis Ababa.

A battle of familiar sides, their last meeting came in semi-finals of the 2022 CECAFA Women’s Championship in Njeru, Uganda emerging triumph (1-0) on the occasion courtesy of Fazila Ikwaput late winner in extra time.

Three years later, they rekindle the rivarly in one of the biggest play-offs on continent. The winner here meets either Tanzania or Equatorial Guinea in the final qualification phase.

North African giants Morocco are hosts of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) having staged a successful edition in 2022.
