The Pearl of Africa started the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Qualification campaign on a high note as they overcame regional neighbors, Ethiopia.
The Uganda Women’s National Soccer Team, Crested Cranes, beat Ethiopia 2-0 in the first leg of the continental play-offs at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo on Friday.
The hosts needed a late surge in added minutes of normal play to put one foot in the next round of qualification on home soil.

The winner on aggregate here will meet either Tanzania or former champions Equatorial Guinea in the final qualifying round. Morocco are hosts of the women’s premier competition.
