Uganda Cranes hop past Syli National to log full points

Uganda Cranes pipped the Syli National of Guinea 1-0 in the sixth round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers on Tuesday evening.

Allan okello spectacular free-kick in the opening half separated the two sides under the lights at Nelson Mandela Stadium, Namboole.

Uganda had four changes in the roster that started the previous round in Cairo, Nafian Alonzi replaced Isima Watenga, while Ssekiganda, Rogers Mato and Travis Mutyaba were the other new faces.

Guinea, on the other hand, French tactician Michel Dussuyer showed trust in his squad, making only one change from the team that graced the turf against Somalia, Aguibou Came was in for Francois Kamano.

The breakthrough for the hosts arrived in the 36th minute following a challenge on Mutyaba by Mohamed Mady Camara, few metres away from the box.

Allan okello used this moment to rise to the occasion, with a stunning free kick, beating Stade de Reims goalkeeper, Soumaila Sylla.

Guinea in surgency mood towards the end had a chance to snatch an equalizer in the 87th minute but custodian Alionzi was in the right place to deny Badara Balde inside the forbidden area.

The triumph puts a stop to Uganda’s two-game winless run in the Qualifying race after succumbing to successive defeats against Algeria and the Mambas of Mozambique.
