Uganda backline under scrutiny ahead of Guirassy visit to Kampala

This stems from the fact the Syli National International has terrorized most of the defensive patterns both on the African continent and in Europe.

Uganda Cranes welcome Guinea in the sixth round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 under the floodlights at Namboole Stadium.

Guirassy Serhou, a proven goal-scorer at Borussia Dortmund, is part of the Guinea 23-man squad coming to Kampala for the crucial qualifier.

The presence of the 2024 CAF African Player of the Year nominee on that day could initiate trouble to the hosts, with Uganda often fond of having a hard time whenever they meet countries that boast of such prolific figures.

The closest examples are on two occasions in these same qualifiers, round one against Guinea and the greens of Algeria during the June window last year at Namboole.

Guirassy, has 14 goals to his name in the German Bundesliga, and leads the charts in the UEFA Champions League with 10, beating the biggest names we know in Europe.

When Guinea took part in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers (AFCON), the 28-year-old finished the whole qualifying campaign on six goals in as many games.

A record of impressive stats, Paul Put charges will have to find solution to stop the Dortmund Star who is accompanied by the likes of Aliou Badra (FC Lausanne), and Diaby Yadaly (Grenoble Foot 38) at the striking line.
