Cranes were drawn against the North African nation in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) draw held last month in Morocco.
In a press conference held on Friday, the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) officially presented Sami Trabelsi as the new head coach of the senior men’s national team.
The 57-year-old will lead the 2004 AFCON champions for a second time after a previous stint between 2011 and 2013.
Trabelsi takes over from compatriot Faouzi Benzarti who was sacked in October less than 5 months in the dugout.
The former Al-Sailiya trainer is expected to restore the country’s superiority on continent after a recession in the national team performances.
At the last AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast, the Carthage Eagles didn’t proceed to the knockouts, bowing out at the group-stage phase.
This year, Tunisia is among the participants at the 2025 edition in Morocco where they will confront three-time winners Nigeria, 1978 runners-up Uganda, and the Taifa Stars of Tanzania.
