U20 AFCON: Flying Eagles face tough challenge in Group B

The Flying Eagles, Nigeria’s U-20 national team, will face a daunting challenge in the upcoming 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations after being drawn into Group B alongside Morocco, Tunisia, and Kenya. The tournament will take place in Egypt from April 27 to May 18, 2025.

The draw, conducted at the Egypt Football Association headquarters in Cairo, saw the hosts, Egypt, placed in Group A with Zambia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, and Tanzania. Group C features defending champions Senegal, who will face stiff competition from the Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Ghana.

Group Stage Breakdown:

  • Group A: Egypt, Zambia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania
  • Group B: Nigeria, Tunisia, Kenya, Morocco
  • Group C: Senegal, Central African Republic, DR Congo, Ghana

The top four teams that reach the semi-finals will not only claim continental honors but also secure automatic qualification for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, scheduled from September 27 to October 19, 2025.

After a three-week training camp in Katsina, the Flying Eagles have returned to Abuja and are expected to depart for Egypt this week for an eight-day final-phase preparation before the competition begins. With seven titles under their belt, Nigeria will be gunning for their first win since 2015.
