The Football community in Uganda has been left in grief following the death of one of the players plying their trade in the local division on Monday, February 24, 2025.
Six-time Uganda Premier League winners, Vipers SC have confirmed the passing of their striker Abubakar Lawal.
The news about his demise first broke out in middle of the day before the parent club officially came out to reaffirm the tragic incident.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden and untimely passing of our beloved player, Abubakar Lawal, who left us this morning.
He’s body has been transferred to a medical facility for postmortem examination. Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Lawal’s family, club fans, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.” A statement from Vipers read

Abubaker last appearance for Vipers was in the 2-0 victory over rivals KCCA FC on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at MTN Omondi Stadium.
