World record holder and Nigeria’s premier hurdler, Tobi Amusan, has made a triumphant return to the top 100 of the World Athletics women’s overall rankings, signaling a significant resurgence in her illustrious career.
After an uncharacteristic slip out of the elite group last year – her first time since the ranking system’s inception in 2019 – Amusan has surged back to 88th in the world with a ranking score of 1366.
This impressive climb is attributed to a string of stellar performances, notably including two runs of 12.45 seconds and a season’s best of 12.24 seconds at the recent 2025 Paris Diamond League.
At the Paris event, she secured a strong second-place finish behind Grace Stark. Her 12.24s mark is her fastest time since she shattered the world record with a blazing 12.12 seconds at Oregon, USA, in 2022.

Amusan’s remarkable ascent has also seen her reclaim the mantle of Nigeria’s highest-ranked female athlete. She has overtaken sprinter Favour Ofili, who held that distinction at the close of 2024 but has now dropped to 175th in the global standings.
Furthermore, in her specialist event, the 100m hurdles, Amusan has climbed back into the highly competitive top 10, currently occupying the No. 9 spot. This marks a significant improvement from her 13th-place finish at the end of last year.
With her form seemingly peaking at a crucial time, Tobi Amusan appears to be firmly on track to replicate, or even surpass, the achievements of her phenomenal 2022 season.
