Super Falcons forward Folashade Ijamilusi has expressed her gratitude and excitement after being named in Nigeria’s squad for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) set to be hosted in Morocco.
The tournament will mark a milestone for Ijamilusi, as it will be her first appearance in Africa’s premier women’s football competition.
“I’d say I feel grateful to be among the team and since it’s my first time, I’m blessed,” Ijamilusi said with emotion.
The 22-year-old striker will line up in a formidable Super Falcons attack that includes stars like Asisat Oshoala, Francisca Ordega, Babajide Omorinsola, Ifeoma Onumonu, Okafor Chioma, Chinwendu Ihezuo, and Esther Okoronkwo.

Looking ahead to the tournament, Ijamilusi is determined to contribute to the team’s success.
“My expectation is to have a good outing with the team and also win the WAFCON by God’s grace,” she added.
Ijamilusi currently plies her trade in the Chinese Women’s Super League with Liaoning Baiye, having signed a two-year contract with the club in February 2025.
Her move to China came on the back of a spectacular domestic and continental campaign with Edo Queens.
The forward played a pivotal role in helping Edo Queens clinch the 2024 WAFU-B Women’s Champions League title in Côte d’Ivoire.
She also made a name for herself in the CAF Women’s Champions League later that year, scoring in their 3-0 opening victory against Ethiopia’s CBE FC and appearing in every match until their dramatic semifinal exit to TP Mazembe.
Ijamilusi’s journey began in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), where she earned a nomination for League Player of the Year during her final season with Robo Queens.
Her move to Edo Queens saw her claim the Golden Boot with eight goals in her debut campaign an achievement that firmly established her as one of the league’s standout players.
