In a heartwarming display of resilience, talent, and unity, the 27th Annual Sports Day of the Blind was held at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Centre on Wednesday.
The event, organized by the Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind (FNSB) and sponsored by the Daramola Dynasty Foundation, brought the theme “Champions of Inclusion” to life in vivid colour.
The atmosphere was electric as participants from FNSB showcased their abilities through various sporting events, including a grand March Past, spirited Tug of War, and high-energy Track Races.
Each event highlighted the strength, coordination, and determination of the athletes, challenging societal perceptions of disability.
One of the most captivating moments of the day was the friendly football match featuring young players from the Daramola Football Academy, who travelled from Isara Remo, Ogun State, to join the celebration.
The game, which ended in a thrilling draw, was a powerful symbol of unity through sport, drawing cheers from the crowd.
Founder of the Daramola Dynasty Foundation, Engr. Olanrewaju Daramola, attended the event and praised the athletes and organizers for their commitment to inclusion.
“This goes beyond the sporting activities,” said Engr. Daramola.
He continued, “It’s about community, visibility, and the power of believing in every individual’s potential. What we’re witnessing here is the true essence of sportsmanship and unity.”
He further emphasised the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to providing opportunities for all, regardless of physical limitations.
“We are proud to support initiatives like this that break barriers and build bridges,” he added.
Spectators and participants alike were moved by the spirit of the day. FNSB staff and volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of the event, while families and friends cheered passionately from the stands.
Speaking after the event, one of the participants, 17-year-old Temitope Adebayo, shared her excitement, “This is one of the happiest days of my life. I felt seen, supported, and celebrated.”
As the day concluded with medals and warm embraces, the 27th Annual Sports Day of the Blind left a lasting impression — a celebration of inclusion, empowerment, and the undeniable truth that ability is not defined by sight but by spirit.
