Nigeria’s Super Falcons have touched down in Lisbon, Portugal, ahead of their international friendly match against the Portuguese women’s national team, scheduled for Monday, June 23.
10 players departed Nigeria via the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja and have already linked up with the team’s technical crew and other squad members in the Portuguese capital.
They were joined in camp by Rinsola Babajide, the former Atlético Madrid striker who arrived separately in Lisbon.
With just days to go before the 13th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) begins on July 5 in Morocco, the team is still expecting 13 more players to join camp. The full 24-woman squad selected by head coach Justine Madugu includes key stars like Asisat Oshoala, Michelle Alozie, and Rasheedat Ajibade, who are likely to link up soon.
After Monday’s clash with Portugal, the Super Falcons will head to Morocco to face Ghana’s Black Queens on Friday, June 29 — their final tune-up before the WAFCON tournament kicks off.
The friendlies are part of the NFF’s build-up plans for the Super Falcons, who are targeting a record-extending 10th WAFCON title in Morocco.
