Super Eagles can’t qualify from the group – Nigerians raised concerns after CHAN draw

Emex Henshaw

The Super Eagles B team will compete in Group D of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) against defending champions Senegal, Congo Brazzaville, and Sudan.

The tournament will be held in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania this August, marking Nigeria’s first participation in seven years.

The draw elicited mixed reactions from fans and analysts. Ayodeji Oludamilare deemed it a “decent draw,” while Uk4riel on X (formerly Twitter) expressed concerns about the team’s prospects in a competitive group.

Another user known as “surreal guy” revealed that it’s a tough group that Nigeria might not advance from the group, “I dont think Nigeria will qualify from this group.”

Sulaimon Yellow, however, wished the team well, hoping they could prevail against tough opponents.

CHAN, a tournament exclusively for players in domestic leagues, provides a platform for local talents to shine.

Nigeria last participated in 2018, reaching the final but losing to Morocco. This year, the team, expected to be led by Fidelis Illechukwu and Daniel Ogunmodede, aims to make a strong comeback.

Initially scheduled for February, the tournament was postponed due to infrastructure issues in the host nations.

The delay has allowed teams, including Nigeria, more time to prepare. Fans are optimistic that the Super Eagles B can deliver strong performances and make a mark in this year’s competition.
