The management of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) has vehemently denied allegations of match-fixing leveled against the club by a radio presenter in Ibadan.
According to a statement released by the Oluyole Warriors on Friday, the presenter, during a sports program aired on an Ibadan-based radio station, alleged that Shooting Stars deliberately relinquished a two-goal lead against Katsina United and also intentionally lost the South West derby clash against newly crowned NPFL champions Remo Stars (1-0).
Shooting Stars expressed their strong disapproval of what they described as “baseless and unfounded allegations” against the club.
“We are therefore, compelled to react swiftly to these baseless, barbaric and unfounded allegations,” the club stated in their official release. “We totally frowned on the unprofessional outburst of the presenter, making references to the matches, our players as well as other individuals, who he mentioned as culprits.”
The club further clarified that no official representative of Shooting Stars had granted an interview to the radio station concerning these matters. “We want to state clearly that nobody from the club granted interview on the radio station and we therefore, wonder how the presenter came up with his reports that our Chairman, Honourable Babatunde Olaniyan ‘Akoro’ offered match officials money during some of our games.”
The strong denial from the management underscores the seriousness with which Shooting Stars are treating these accusations as the Nigeria Premier Football League season draws to a close.
