It was a historic and dramatic conclusion to the 2025 Seals Cup as the Department of Human Kinetics and Education (KHE) claimed the female title, while Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) sealed a second consecutive championship in the male category after a nail-biting penalty shootout.
Debby’s brilliance lifts KHE to Glory in Seals Cup
On Friday, June 20, the KHE girls were crowned champions of the Seals Cup’s female category, following a 2-0 victory over the Department of Philosophy on the Old SUB pitch. Once again, it was Debby, the tournament’s star performer who delivered a match-winning performance, scoring both goals in a dominant display.
KHE began the game on the front foot and took the lead in the 6th minute with a stunning goal directly from a goalkick by Debby, a moment of brilliance that stunned the Philosophy defence and resulted in an injury to their goalkeeper.
Despite efforts from Philosophy’s Heritage to mount a comeback, KHE’s defence stood firm, and goalkeeper Tayo Gold made key saves to keep a clean sheet. In the second half, Debby struck again, curling home a freekick to double the lead and all but secure the title.
Her performance, along with KHE’s tactical discipline, proved too much for Philosophy, as the Human Kinetics girls ended their campaign as undisputed champions of the female division.
MBBS Edge KHE in epic men’s final
In the male category final, MBBS edged out KHE in one of the most dramatic Seals Cup finales in recent memory.
The match, played under floodlights at the Old SUB pitch, ended 0-0 after regulation time and was decided by a marathon penalty shootout, with MBBS winning 10-9.

The encounter, which kicked off at 5:59 PM following a ceremonial first kick by Sports Council Director Mr. Eyiomo, was tightly contested.
MBBS pressed early, but KHE’s solid defensive setup anchored by Tomiwa, Bade, and Francis thwarted several promising attacks.
Despite a late surge from KHE, neither side could find the net. The game headed to penalties, and what followed was a shootout filled with tension and theatre.
After both teams matched each other kick-for-kick through 10 rounds, KHE goalkeeper Tomiwa stepped up to take the 11th penalty and missed. MBBS shot-stopper Emerald then converted the decisive kick, clinching back-to-back Seals Cup titles for the Ibadan medicine boys.
