Valencia’s relegation pressure was relieved after securing a 2-1 victory during a pulsating contest against Real Valladolid in the La Liga match day 27 at Mestalla Stadium on Sunday night. Thanks to Diego Lopez’s opener and Sadiq Umar’s winner.
Valencia now sit in 16 at the second-10 of the La Liga table, having the same points however with six goals difference ahead of Leganes, coming behind Espanyol.
Los Ches hitman Diego Lopez put his side in the driver’s seat when he found the back of the net in the seventh minute. Real Valladolid responded in the 40th minute when Juanmi Latasa leveled the game to 1-1 as the first-half ended in parity.
Thirteen minutes into the second-half, the Nigerian forward Sadiq Umar extended the lead to 2-1 as his 59th minute winner handed Valencia a deserving victory in their home.
Today’s heroics delivered by the Super Eagles star has added to his thrilling performance, picking a beautiful form during the 2024/25 La Liga campaign. Since 1 February 2025, the Nigerian forward has recorded four goals from four attempts on targets the best to be recorded by any player in the league with a 100 percent success rate for shots on target.
This electrifying performance is expected to earn Umar a spot in Eric Chelle’s Super Eagles squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers campaign against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in the late March 2025.
