Rwanda head coach Adel Amrouche has expressed his deep disappointment with his team’s performance following their 2-0 defeat to Nigeria in their World Cup qualifier at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Friday.
Despite Amrouche’s aspirations for a winning start in his tenure, Victor Osimhen’s decisive brace secured a victory for Nigeria, narrowing the gap between the two teams in Group C.

During the post-match press conference, Amrouche voiced his dissatisfaction, stating that the team’s performance fell short of the expectations of their passionate fans and President Paul Kagame.
“There are somethings we need to correct in this team. No problem, we lost and will regroup and go again in our next game,” Amrouche said.
“I am very ashamed today. We can’t give such performance like this today in front of all these fans and the President HE Paul Kagame.”
Amrouche, a self-proclaimed “bad loser,” vowed to improve his team’s showing in their upcoming match against Lesotho.
“I hate losing. I am a bad loser. We will do very well against Lesotho,” he asserted.
The defeat has increased the pressure on Rwanda, making their next match against Lesotho a must-win to maintain their World Cup qualification hopes.
However, with seven points from five games, Rwanda remains in a favorable position. A victory over Lesotho could propel them to second place, especially with group leaders South Africa and Benin set to clash.
