Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo has issued an emotional message to the club’s supporters following their elimination from the AFC Champions League at the semi-final stage.
The Saudi Arabian giants suffered a 3-2 defeat to Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale, extinguishing their hopes of continental glory and ensuring another season without a major trophy for the Portuguese superstar. Al Nassr were previously knocked out of the King’s Cup in October, and currently trail Saudi Pro League leaders Al-Ittihad by eight points with only five matches remaining, making their chances of domestic success slim.
As his wait for a significant title in Saudi Arabia continues, the 40-year-old Ronaldo took to social media platform X to express his gratitude to the Al Nassr faithful for their unwavering support throughout their campaign. He also lauded the efforts of his teammates.
He wrote: “Sometimes the dream has to wait. I’m proud of this team and everything we gave on the pitch. Thank you to all the fans who believed in us and stood by us every step of the way. Your support means the world.”
Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in December 2022 and while he has displayed impressive individual form, major team silverware has remained elusive for the club since his arrival. This latest setback in the AFC Champions League will undoubtedly be a bitter pill to swallow for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner and the Al Nassr supporters who had hoped for a successful run in the prestigious competition.
