Remo Stars edge closer to NPFL title with 8 points clear

Remo Stars have significantly strengthened their bid for a maiden Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title, extending their lead at the top to eight points with a decisive 2-0 victory over Enyimba on Thursday.

The result capitalized on Rivers United’s earlier slip-up, a 1-0 loss to Bayelsa United, giving Remo Stars the opportunity to widen the gap. Despite facing a formidable Enyimba side, unbeaten in their previous five matches, Remo Stars rose to the occasion at their home ground.

Fueled by their passionate home support, Remo Stars started strongly, demonstrating their intent to secure an early advantage.

Their pressure paid off in the 28th minute, with Adedayo Olamilekan’s clinical finish breaking the deadlock.

The second half was a tense affair, with Enyimba pushing for an equalizer while Remo Stars sought to solidify their lead. In the 68th minute, substitute Samson Olasupo made an immediate impact, scoring with his first touch to double Remo Stars’ advantage and secure a 2-0 victory.

The crucial win elevates Remo Stars to 60 points from 30 games, placing them eight points ahead of second-placed Rivers United. Enyimba, meanwhile, remain ninth in the table.

With just seven matches remaining and a game in hand, Remo Stars are now on the verge of making history, holding a commanding lead over their title rivals.
