Prince Ademola Garus Alaka, Osun State’s representative in the ongoing National Sports Festival’s darts category, has encouraged youths to participate in the sport. Speaking with journalists at the Alake Sports Club in Ogun State,
Prince Alaka emphasized the importance of engaging young children, particularly secondary school students in darts, With over four decades of experience in the sport.
He believes that introducing young talent will rejuvenate darts in Osun State. He appealed to the state government to support training programs for young darts players.
As a seasoned darts player and former President of Ijesha Sports Club, Prince Alaka has represented Osun State, winning medals, including at the 2006 National Sports Festival in Ogun State.
Noting that other states have brought numerous darts players to the festival, Prince Alaka lamented that Osun State’s representation was limited to just two players.
He said “State like Abia, Bornu, Rivers and Ogun State brought more than ten Darts players to this year national sports festival which Osun has only two representatives.
He urged the state government to invest in darts, highlighting the potential for growth and success.
According to him, “We have been coaching many people particularly secondary school children but due to financial constraints by the government we were not able to trained them to become a national national darts players”
