Osun Hockey Club has received a major boost with the unveiling of multi-million naira worth of equipment, marking a significant step forward for the sport in the state. The club expressed deep appreciation to the Osun State Government, led by Governor Senator Ademola Jackson Adeleke and his deputy, for their unwavering support in revitalizing hockey.
During the unveiling ceremony, a coach with the Osun State Hockey Team highlighted the transformative impact of the new equipment, stating that it had been two decades since such investments were last made.
“It’s been since 2004 that equipment such as these were last purchased for us. We literally go and borrow or rent hockey equipment each time we have competitions. But thanks to Senator Ademola Jackson Adeleke and his deputy, our team can now boast of jerseys, sticks, skates, and protective gear,” the coach remarked.
The coach further emphasized the significance of the state government’s intervention, describing it as a game-changer for hockey in Osun.
“On behalf of the Osun Hockey Team, I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for the incredible support and generosity. This contribution not only enhances our players’ experience but also inspires them to strive for excellence. The State Government’s commitment to supporting hockey is truly commendable, and we are deeply appreciative of this, although like Oliver Twist, we’ll always ask for more,” he added.
The new equipment is expected to strengthen Osun’s representation in national and club hockey competitions while fostering the development of the sport at the grassroots level.
