Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen has declared his unwavering desire to play in the 2026 World Cup, urging his teammates to give their all in the upcoming qualifiers. Nigeria faces a challenging path to qualification, currently sitting fifth in their group, but Osimhen remains optimistic about their chances.
“We have to give everything,” Osimhen stated in an interview with Sports writer Oluwashina Okeleji. “It’s a dream of every youngster to be at the World Cup and mine is no exception.”
With crucial matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe on the horizon, the Napoli striker emphasized the team’s determination to rectify past mistakes and secure qualification after missing the previous tournament. “For me, I want to be there, just like every other of my Super Eagles teammates and we are really looking forward to the game against Rwanda to try and correct all the mistakes we’ve made in the past games, so for me we will be ready,” he affirmed.
Osimhen also addressed the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where Nigeria will face Uganda, Tanzania, and Tunisia. He acknowledged the unpredictable nature of African football, stating, “It’s not going to be easy. Just like we all know this is African Football, this is AFCON, you can get a lot of surprises but we’re gonna take each game as they come.”
The striker expressed his optimism about the appointment of new coach Eric Chelle, revealing, “We have a new coach, I spoke with him some couple of times, and I know the kind of objectives he has set for himself and the players. I’m looking forward to the first training so that we can feel his presence and know what exactly we can do.”
Beyond international duties, Osimhen is also focused on helping Galatasaray secure the Super Lig title, aiming to bounce back from their recent Europa League exit. His commitment to both club and country underscores his ambition and drive for success
