Okocha confident Super Eagles can beat South Africa in World Cup qualifiers

Former Nigerian international, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, has reiterated his belief that the Super Eagles have the capability to defeat South Africa in their upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying match.

Despite Bafana Bafana holding a comfortable lead in Group C with 13 points from six games, six points ahead of Nigeria who have seven, Okocha remains optimistic. South Africa are also five points clear of second-placed Rwanda.

In an interview with iDiski Times, the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations winner stressed the importance of winning all their remaining qualifiers for Nigeria to secure a place at the Mundial.

“If we want to give ourselves any chance of qualifying, we have to be thinking of winning all our remaining matches,” Okocha stated.

Acknowledging the difficulty of the task, particularly against the group leaders, he added, “Of course Bafana Bafana are top in the group, it will be a difficult game to play but of course we still believe that we can go there and win.”

Okocha concluded by emphasizing the necessity of such victories for Nigeria’s qualification hopes.

“If we want to qualify, those are the games that we need to win. I believe that we can win there, but it’s definitely not going to be easy,” the AFCON 1994 winner said.
