Ibom Angels head coach Edwin Okon expressed his delight after his side secured their first victory of the 2024/25 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) season, defeating Benue Queens 2-1 at home.
“I appreciate God for this win,” Okon said after the match. “This one has come and gone, and we are going to focus on our next match. It’s not easy as you can see, female football is not like male football. I’m so happy for the win, but I believe more work needs to be done in the team.”

Okon acknowledged the high standards of the NWFL, stating, “There are levels of football. This is not the National League, this is not the Championship; this is the Premiership. As you can see from my own side, we’re not yet at the standard we want.”
Wami Geogeline gave Ibom Angels an early lead in the third minute, but Anastasia Emefo equalized for Benue Queens. However, Kelechi Chukwunlem restored Ibom Angels’ lead before halftime, securing the crucial three points.
The victory will provide a much-needed boost for Ibom Angels as they look to climb the table. Their next challenge will be an away fixture against FC Robo Queens in Lagos.
