NWFL Super 6: We want to win the title – Wemimo Matthew set to make history with Remo stars

Remo Stars Ladies coach, Wemimo Matthew, is confident that her team can secure a victory over Naija Ratels of FCT in their match at the Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) Super 6.

This win, she believes, would be a big step towards claiming the championship title.

Remo Stars Ladies began their NWFL Super-6 campaign with a thrilling 1-0 win over defending champions Edo Queens of Benin City.

Coach Wemimo expressed her delight with the victory, stating, “It was a tough game, but we had our plan, and it worked for us. We defeated not just a team but the defending champions, and it was in our first game of the Super-6”.

The win over Edo Queens has set the stage for Remo Stars Ladies to make history. With their male squad, Remo Stars FC of Ikenne, crowned as champions of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), Coach Wemimo envisions a historic moment where both the male and female teams from the same stable win the top-tier leagues in Nigeria.

“We want to win the title and make history. It would be wonderful that a private-owned club won the male and female leagues of Nigeria in the same season,” Coach Wemimo said.

She also acknowledged the challenges ahead, particularly against Naija Ratels, saying, “Our next game will be against Naija Ratels, one of the best private-owned clubs in the nation. I respect them a lot, but we are ready for the task”.

Coach Wemimo’s ambition for the team extends beyond just participating in the playoffs.

“For us, getting to this extent in just two years means we are doing well; but any team that qualifies for the Super-6 has a target to win the league. It will be tough, but there’s no pressure on us,” she said.

With their sights set on the championship title, Remo Stars Ladies will face stiff competition from other top teams in the NWFL Super-6, including Nasarawa Amazons, Bayelsa Queens, and Rivers Angels.
