The NPFL’s disciplinary measures include:

  • N3 million fine: This is broken down into three N1 million penalties for:
    • Encroachment onto the pitch by fans.
    • Failure to ensure proper conduct of their team and supporters.
    • Failure to provide adequate and effective security measures at the match venue.

The sanctions stem from an incident where Nasarawa United supporters assaulted centre referee Musibaudeen Ibrahim following the final whistle.

In addition to the substantial fine, the NPFL has also imposed sporting sanctions, deducting three points and three goals from Nasarawa United’s accumulated totals for the season. This significant penalty will undoubtedly impact the club’s league standing.

The NPFL has further mandated that Nasarawa United identify and prosecute the individual or individuals responsible for the assault on the referee. The club has been given a strict deadline of seven days to submit details of their progress in this investigation to the league.

Nasarawa United has been granted a 48-hour window to appeal the sanctions imposed by the NPFL. The severity of the penalties underscores the league’s commitment to maintaining order and ensuring the safety of match officials and players.
