Nigerian forward Chibuike Nwaiwu has clinched his first major European silverware, winning the Austrian Cup with Wolfsberger AC.
Wolfsberger AC triumphed over Hartberg with a narrow 1-0 victory in a tightly contested final held at the 28 Black Arena on Wednesday. The decisive moment came in the 77th minute when Angelo Gattermayer headed home powerfully to secure the win for his side.
Chibuike Nwaiwu played a crucial role in Wolfsberger’s success, featuring in the heart of the midfield for the entirety of the final. This victory marks a significant milestone in the young Nigerian’s career, representing his first major honour since moving to Europe.
Nwaiwu joined Wolfsberger AC last summer from Nigerian giants and nine-time NPFL champions, Enyimba. He was part of the Enyimba squad that lifted the Nigeria Premier Football League title two years ago.
By winning the Austrian Cup, Wolfsberger AC have secured their place in the UEFA Europa League for the upcoming season, providing Nwaiwu with the opportunity to showcase his talents on a broader European stage.
