Nigeria group opponents disqualified from CHAN 2024

Last week, the final draw for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) was conducted in Kenya’s Capital City, Nairobi.

Nigeria, was placed in group D that has defending champions Senegal, Sudan, and the Red Devils of Congo.

Now there will be a new face in Nigeria’s group after disqualification of one of the teams that was set to feature at the August tournament in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

Congo has been officially disqualified following a decision by the disciplinary jury of the Confederation of African Football.(CAF)

During the qualification process, Congo broke some regulations that were reported by Equatorial Guinea to the panel.

The Red Devils from central Africa didn’t present valid national licenses during the games against Equatorial Guinea.

Further more, they used Mankou Nguembete Japhet Eloi who was not eligible to play in the qualifiers.

As a result, CAF has decided that the two games played on 21 and 29 December, 2024 have been declared lost by forfeit for Congo and Equatorial Guinea awarded with a 3-0 win.

Equatorial Guinea now take over the spot that was previously occupied by Congo in the 2024 CHAN tournament.
