The apology comes out days after the chaotic Stanbic Uganda Cup Quarter-final clash between Kitara FC and BuL FC that was played on Sunday, April 20 at Royals Park Stadium, Butema.
The Eastern giants defender Nicholas Mwere who was sent off late in the 1-0 defeat to holders Kitara FC has apologized for the for the violent and unsporting behavior witnessed that day.
“It’s a moment were no word can explain what happened in our game against kitara fc, and am here to pass my apology to match official Musisi ,the fans,Fufa and the game of football.” Mwere penned down his socials (X)
A game dominated by scuffles and chaos, didn’t only see Mwere receiving marching orders but also team-mate Jeromy Kirya and Kitara’s Titus Ssematimba earned a red card each, leaving the pitch prematurely.
In the aftermath, BuL head Abbey Kikomeko initiated efforts to attack the match officials, a move that was halted and calmed down the security and safety operatives.
Local football governing body, Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) have since then opened investigations into these circumstances, with penalties likely to follow after conclusion of the exercise.
