NEC narrow gap to top spot with win over Express

NEC FC dispatched Express FC 3-1 as they reached a milestone mark of fifty games in the Startimes Uganda Premier League on Thursday evening.

Muzamiru Mutyaba, Paul Mucureezi, and Allan Mugalu got the goals for NEC, while Conrad Ssenjogera netted the consolation goal for Express.

NEC opened the scoring at MTN Omondi Stadium just after three minutes of play, former player Muzamir firing home to put the hosts ahead.

Express forward Samuel Ssenyonjo nearly restored parity in the 17th minute but his effort was impeded by returning goal keeper Ssebwalunnyo.

In the 24th minute, man of the match Kavuma pin-point cross from the left wing was finished off by Paul Mucureezi, extending the diehards lead.

NEC put the game beyond reach in the 55th minute, with Mucureezi turning the provider for substitute Mugalu to make it 3-0 after restart.

The travelers reduced the deficit in the late stages of the bout, new comer from the bench Conrad finding back of the net in the 82nd minute.

NEC now lie second on 47 points, just two behind Vipers, who will play their 21st match on Saturday against SC Villa in Wankulukuku.

Express, whose last win came in a 4-1 victory over Wakiso Giants on March 3, have now lost three straight games, slipping to seventh with 28 points.
