National Sports Festival: Osun thrash Benue to advance in Football Semifinals

Team Osun’s female football team delivered a dominant performance at the National Sports Festival, “Gateway Games 2024,” thrashing Team Benue 6-1 to secure their spot in the semifinals.

Doyin Adepeju opened the scoring early for Team Osun, followed by Taofeek Robiat’s goal in the 13th minute, giving them a comfortable 2-0 lead at halftime.

The second half saw Team Osun extend their advantage with four more goals. Victory Odanlumen found the net in the 56th minute, and she was joined on the scoresheet by Asha Omolola, Rukiyat Ariyo, and Moyin Afolabi, each contributing a goal. Team Benue managed to pull one back from a spot kick in the 60th minute, but it proved to be a mere consolation.

This emphatic victory propels Team Osun into the last four, building on their narrow 1-0 win against Team Edo in their opening match. With their semifinal berth secured, Team Osun will now face Team Ogun in their final group match with the pressure off.
