Nasarawa Amazons are here to compete – Danjuma

Danjuma

Nasarawa Amazons coach Christopher Danjuma expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance after their Day 2 match in the NWFL Premiership Super Six, emphasizing their competitive intent in the playoffs.

When asked about his feelings on the match’s outcome, Coach Danjuma stated, “I’m very excited because after we scored, it felt like the game was ours to take. The beauty of the Super Six is that it truly tests your intelligence, courage, and overall resilience. When we had a player go down, it’s only natural for the team to lose a bit of shape. Playing ten against eleven—or even twelve if you count the crowd and pressure—can be very challenging. I think that was the main reason we couldn’t hold onto the lead. But we’ll take the result as it comes. One point is certainly better than none.”

Reflecting on their strong start, having secured four points from their opening two encounters against tough opposition, including an unbeaten Rivers Angels side, the coach affirmed their pre-tournament mindset.

He said, “Yes, we did, in the sense that we came here with the mindset that we have nothing to lose. We’ve set a standard for ourselves. In previous editions of the Super Six, we participated mainly to test our team’s strength. But this time, we’re here to compete. And when you come to compete, you come with a clear objective. That’s why we’re here—to fight for the trophy.”

The interviewer also inquired about the performance of Juventus, who has scored 11 goals for Nasarawa Amazons this season. Coach Danjuma provided context to her development.

He added, “She’s still an upcoming player. This is her debut season in top-flight women’s football, so she’s still developing. But we’re happy with her progress so far.”

Coach Danjuma’s comments underscore Nasarawa Amazons’ determined approach to the Super Six, highlighting their ambition to compete for the league title and their satisfaction with a solid start against formidable opponents. The development of young players like Juventus also bodes well for their future prospects.
