Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has expressed his disappointment if the Blues fail to sign Victor Osimhen this summer.
The 26-year-old striker has been a target for Chelsea, but the club’s interest was put on hold last summer due to his wage demands.
Mikel, who had expressed interest in signing Osimhen, believes it would be a mistake for Chelsea to let him slip away.
“Listen, it will be really sad if we don’t get a player who supported us as a kid and wants to play for this Football Club,” Mikel said on the Obione podcast.
Mikel highlighted Osimhen’s admiration for Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, saying it would be a motivating factor for the striker to join the club.
“His idol is Drogba, he will want to break records, win us trophies, get us back to the top, come for Drogba’s records,” Mikel added.
While Chelsea may not be pursuing Osimhen this summer, Mikel believes the club can still revisit their interest and secure his signature.
“If the club chose not to pursue it.. then well fair enough, good luck to them, but the good thing about it is we know where we left it, we can literally pick the phone up and get him straight in the door,” Mikel concluded.
