The second day of match day 21 in the Startimes Uganda Premier League commenced with two games on the menu.
Maroons FC on the road edged newcomers Lugazi FC 1-0 in their own park yard in Najjembe on Friday evening.
Abel Michael Eturude’s first half strike propelled the visitors past Lugazi who were yet to lose a game at home since the start of the second term.
The outcome was a repeat of the result witnessed in the reverse fixture when the two sides first met in October 2024 at Luzira Prison Grounds.
Maroons broke the deadlock in the 21st minute, Michael Eturude slotting home after a beautiful set-up from Mawejje in the forbidden area.
Maroons kept knocking on the door but couldn’t add more onto the narrow lead, with one goal being recorded in the opening half.
On return from the locker room, Rogers Kiwanuka thunderous strike from outside the box in the 56th minute was parried away by goalkeeper Mutebi Juma.
Lugazi come close to finding a leveler in the 77th minute, but Derrick Mwanje shot coupled with Burungi Alvin attempt few minutes later was easily dealt with by Tamale.
A league double compeleted over the leaders, Maroons moved in the sixth place on the log, 30 points in 21 games while Lugazi FC descended to 11th.
In the other early kick-off, Wakiso Giants suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of UPDF FC who returned to winning ways, thanks to a late second half effort from Samuel Ssekamate.
