Lugazi stun Express, league double over the Eagles secured

The leaders complete a league double over Express FC in their maiden season playing in the top-flight division.

Lugazi FC beat the Red Eagles Express FC 1-0 on match day 19 of the Startimes Uganda Premier League on Thursday.

A repeat of the scoreline from the reverse fixture when the two sides first met in October at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.

Sharif Saaka’s decisive strike in the 43rd minute proved to be the dagger, leaving visitors reeling from an unexpected defeat.

The final stanza never had any major alteration, with Express pushing for an equalizer at Lugazi Stadium-Najjembe.

The grief comes days after Express put a dominant display (4-1win) against Wakiso Giants FC at home, marking their 3rd defeat in last 4 league games.

Since the turn of the year, Steven Bogere’s men have been in red-hot form, losing once and winning five games across all competitions.

Following the victory, Lugazi FC remained 11th on log but increased the tally to 23 points whilst Express FC are fifth on 28 points.
