Kuti and Aiyelabegan Top Seeds at 56th Molade Okoya-Thomas Cup

National table tennis champions Matthew Kuti and Sukurat Aiyelabegan have been named the top seeds in the Men’s and Women’s Singles categories, respectively, at the 56th Molade Okoya-Thomas Cup. The tournament enters its third day on Wednesday, January 29th.

Kuti (Lagos) leads a strong field in the Men’s Singles, facing competition from River’s Jamiu Ayanwale, Kwara’s Abdulbasit Abdulfatai, Edo’s Amadi Omeh, and defending champion Muiz Adegoke (Lagos).

In the Women’s Singles, Aiyelabegan (Kwara) holds the No. 1 seed in the absence of national champion Hope Udoaka (Cross River). She will face stiff competition from Lagos’ Kabirat Ayoola, NSCDC’s Aminat Fashola, and nine-time champion Bose Odusanya.

The preliminary rounds of the deaf and para events wrapped up on Tuesday, January 28th. Paris 2024 Paralympics medalist Isau Ogunkunle was dominant in his matches and remains a strong contender for the title.
