KCCA keep silverware hopes alive

Record winners, KCCA recorded a 4-0 emphatic victory over Rwenzori Lions in the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 16 tie played on Tuesday at MTN Omondi Stadium.

A brace from left-back James Mubezi and a goal each from Sadat Anaku and Etienne Katenga propelled the Kasasiro Boys to the quarter-finals of the 51st edition.

James Mubezi opened the hunt for goals with a tap-in from close quarters off a corner kick to give KCCA FC the lead inside 9 minutes.

Midfielder Sharifu Ssengendo nearly doubled the lead for the hosts 10 minutes later but goalkeeper Masereka was in position to deny him.

In the 47th minute after the break, forward Anaku made it 2-0, tapping home after a beautiful lay-off and assist from defender Mubezi.

Player of the match Mubezi having a night to remember, again found back of the net, increasing the scoreline to 3-0 in the 68th minute.

Substitute and returning Katenga completed the rout in Lugogo in stoppage time as KCCA cruised past the regional side from Kasese.

A spot secured in the last eight, KCCA will hope to continue with the same momentum in quest to lift the local competition that guarantees one continental football.
