KCCA fall to tenants NEC in yet another Lugogo affair

The die-hards for one more time this season proved to be a hurdle for the landlords in the Lugogo derby.

NEC FC began the second round in style, 1-0 winners over KCCA FC at MTN Omondi Stadium on Thursday.

Enock Ssebaggala’s header in the 9th minute from a well-crafted cross by Geriga Atendele separated the two sides on the night.

The triumph saw Mbalangu’s charges complete a historic league double over the thirteen Uganda Premier league winners.

During the first stanza drama erupted in the 34th minute after NEC goalkeeper Ssebwalunnyo was initially shown a red card for handling the ball out of the 18-yard box but later center referee Lucky Kasalirwe overturned the decision after consultation and was handed a yellow card.

KCCA in pursuit of an equalizer after recess, the tenants defense held firm onto their lead till the final whistle.

With the win, NEC closed the gap at the top, second on 36 points, one behind leaders Vipers SC while KCCA sit fourth with 24 points in 16 games.

In the early-kick off games, Kitara FC played out a goalless draw with UPDF FC in Bombo as Mbarara City FC secured 1-0 victory over Mbale Heroes thanks to Henry Kitegenyi last-gasp header.
