Ikorodu City right-back Waliu Ojetoye is optimistic about breaking into the Super Eagles squad, following an outstanding season in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The 21-year-old was one of the brightest revelations of the 2024/25 campaign, finishing with a league-best nine assists and helping Ikorodu City to a remarkable 4th-place finish — a notable achievement given the team’s slow start to the season.
Ojetoye’s stellar form earned him a call-up to both the CHAN Eagles and Nigeria’s senior national team, where he was included in Coach Eric Chelle’s squad for the 2025 Unity Cup. Although he did not get to feature in any of the tournament matches — watching the opener against Ghana from the bench and missing the matchday squad for the final against Jamaica — the young full-back remains positive.

“I had a very nice experience in the Super Eagles team. It was a different exposure for me,” Ojetoye told ACL Sports.
“I was not disappointed not getting any minutes on the pitch because I know my time will come. Things are being done gradually, so I don’t need to jump into it. I believe that when it’s my time, I will play and give it my best.”
Currently enjoying a brief break, Ojetoye may be on the move soon amid growing speculation that his performances have attracted interest from top NPFL clubs and possibly sides abroad.
With his maturity and performance trajectory, Ojetoye is already considered one of the most promising young defenders in Nigerian football. If he maintains his form and composure, a regular place in the Super Eagles may be only a matter of time.
