Real Madrid legend Marcelo has revealed his immense respect for Lionel Messi, while also admitting to the frustration of facing the Argentine superstar in El Clasico clashes.
The Brazilian left-back, known for his own dazzling skills, confessed that Messi often left him feeling “made a fool of.”
During a recent interview with La Revuelta, Marcelo opened up about his encounters with Messi, who tormented Real Madrid throughout his time at Barcelona.
“I appreciate him a lot. He’s a crack, he’s incredible. I thought you were going to show me the videos in which he made a fool of me! I didn’t even see him pass me. He was very fast. But no problem, I was born in a place where dribbling is the best, not being dribbled.”
Despite his admiration for Messi’s talent, Marcelo admitted to moments of intense frustration.
“The problem,” he revealed, “is I wanted to hit him but I couldn’t get him.” This candid admission highlights the challenge of defending against Messi’s exceptional dribbling and agility.
Marcelo’s honesty offers a glimpse into the fierce rivalry between Real Madrid and Barcelona, and the personal battles that unfold on the pitch. While acknowledging Messi’s brilliance, Marcelo’s comments also underscore the competitive spirit that defined their encounters.
