Emem Essien of Edo Queens has been crowned the Best Player of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) first round, after garnering an impressive 1,740 votes.
The talented player edged out Kafayat Bashiru of Remo Stars Ladies, who secured 1,681 votes, and Bolaji Olamide, also of Remo Stars Ladies, who got 687 votes.
Essien expressed her gratitude to God and her parents, who have been her biggest influences in a chat with NAIRA SPORTS.
“First of all, I want to say thanks to God Almighty because he has been the one who has been true to me. My biggest influences were my parents because their support was good for me.”

Essien also reflected on her breakout moment, saying, “My breakout moment was when I discovered my talent, and I was happy and more lively than before.”
When asked about the demands of playing at a higher level, Essien emphasised the importance of a positive mindset and creativity. “By having a positive mindset and trying to be creative, I believe I can overcome any challenge.”
